How To: Preparing and Raiding

Back by popular demand!  But unlike my last post on raiding, this one is meant for those looking to do current Normals, Heroic, and even Mythics.  So without further ado:  Raid Preping!

There are two types of Raids (if you dont include LFR atleast).  There is a PuG or Planned.

PuG, no matter if its only pulling in a few people with a core group, or just completely random:  Assume their noobs.  No, really.  Dont think ANYONE knows what to do.  Dont think ANYONE has food, pots, flask, ect, ect.  In fact, assume they all just suck-this will encourage you to do your best so you dont die over and over.

Planned:  Guild, friends, it dont matter, this is mainly raiders you know and trust.  This can make things better or worse.  When with friends your pushed to impress, you dont want to be last-you want to be the highest or else these people you respect wont respect you.  But on the other hand you know what they can and cant do, you know they know this or dont-which takes out guessing factor.

How to:  Prepare

Learn Fights.  Seriously.. No matter the group, you should get a minor inkling of the fight mechanics.  Just about any raiding site can tell you the ins and outs of the raid and how to move foward.  I suggest learning for dps, tanks, and healers so you have the idea and then make notes on your role.

Tanks, healers:  Learn the major hitting abilities so you can prepare CDs for those.

Tanks, learn when to swap, if you can taunt or if its a threat drop, and if there will be adds.

Healers:  When there is AoE, if things will fixate, if you will need to/can dispell, and what sort of things will take priority (aka, heavy hitting bleeds that continue till fully healed or NPCs that will help if healed, ect).

DPS:  Is the threat dropped at any point, what boss/add dies first, if things should die together, what should you avoid or get out of, how can you help tank switches (hunters and rogues), how can you help during heavy damage (by using CDs on yourself or tanks).

Everyone:  What to step in, what not to step in.  Sometimes..Fire is good.  VERY rare.  But it happens!

Also:  LFR.  It wont have ALL the mechanics, but its a warm and fuzzy!

Improvement Needs and this is a real thing.. This means your Pots, your Flask, your Food, your tokens.

Best to assume no one will have these.  Even if your group provides, have your own as a in case!

DPS and/or iLvl  Some classes dont need a 700 ilvl to pull 50k.  Sometimes your stats are so screwed you need that 700 ilvl just to have the multistrike, mastery, crit, or haste to PULL your needed 30k.  Okay, thats overboard but you get the point.  Most people want a minimal iLvl for raids, but iLvl wont mean your ready.  So instead, look for recommended DPS.  I'd rather have a 600 pulling 35k then a 650 pulling 15k.  Thats just the facts.

RAID DAY!

Be early.  Be on 10 minutes early.  Sometimes they'll start early or late, but being last one on can really irk your raid leads.

Know Fights.  Keep it fresh, have notes ready!

Talk to your leads.  If you'll be late, if your having lag/storms, ect.  Tell them in advance.  Even if it wont work out, them knowing will keep your spot next week open.

Volunteer.  Dont be the arse saying "1, 1, 1, SUMMON PLZ!"  No one likes that.  Run yourself, even if others are on the way there.  It'll show that your not lazy!

Be set.  An hour in you may need to use restroom..  But 5 minutes in.. You could of gone BEFORE and you know it!  Dont be the one who starts a AFK fest 3 minutes in.  Try and make sure your ready before and can hold till the first break.

Run Back.  I hate this personally.  Its a wipe, and everyone but the one lazy bum runs in.  Dont be the bum.

Wipes Happen.  No one likes the elitist bitching at every bad turn.  You die, it happens.  Sometimes mechanics screw you.  Sometimes you lag.  Dont cry, laugh and push through.  Be the one that puts a bow on destruction!

After Raids

Say thanks, gratz people, just be polite, no matter how shitty.

Smile.  You survived!

Thats my sage advice!
