Frequently asked Questions by newer players, returning players, and new 100s

I’d be lying if I said this was a joke post.  But I get questions here, in game, on forums, everywhere.  And some might seem stupid, but honestly we’ve all been there.  Everyone starts somewhere, so I always answer to the best of my ability.  I’ve even told people to look at certain articles on WoWHead, Icy Veins, and here.  But some questions I see more than not.

I’d like to point out there are about In-Game things, not about the blog.  And please, if you see someone asking questions like this, be patient:  Even an older player might not realize some of this.  Just remember when you were new and needed help.

Where did you get that ring?

This usually refers to the Dread Pirate Ring, an heirloom.  I got it A LOT before they introduced the new heirloom rings, but even now I get asked.  Which is okay.

In Booty Bay, every Sunday there’s a fishing tournament.  The winners get their pick of a few items, including the heirloom ring.  Short version:  You have to fish to win it.  Gotta be quick too.

My suggestions:  Try on holiday weekends or anytime you expect the server to be pretty much empty.  Or you can go to a low pop realm.  I suggest 300+ fishing to shorten cast times and flying.  Having fish tracking is a great thing too!

How can I enter your garrison?

New 100s ask this abit, which is okay.  But even older may not realize a glitch that can prevent you from switching over.  So don’t feel ashamed.

First off:  be IN your garrison.  If you’re not, you won’t get sent over.  It’s not an issue, you just have to be zoned into Garrisons for it to switch.

Second:  Click on your portrait and click view leaders garrison.  And you should be there!  If not, try a relog.

Where did you get that (insert any transmog, mount, or pet name here)?

This one is really hard to answer here because there are millions of items to choose from.  My best suggestion is to find a good database to pick from that will allow you to search by name.

www.wowhead.com  (Great for searching EVERYTHING)

www.curse.com   (For Add-ons!  For this I suggest you get Curse Client and download atlasloot.  It allows searching for any item, sort of like WoWHead without leaving WoW!)

You’re in game databases (for pets, mounts, and toys), just typing the name with search for it and all are nicely tucked in collection tab!

What Stats do I need as this class/spec?

Even older players ask this one a lot.  While guildies and friends can be a great source, a fact-straight way is www.icy-veins.com one of the few sites I’ve found to have accurate info.  But that’s not the only reason I suggest them.  They explain the pros and cons for their choices-most sites don’t-and even offer alternatives.  But as always, I don’t suggest following these to the letter.  More than not these sites pander to high end raiders and are expecting you to have atleast normal raid gear.  Because of that I suggest reading their suggestions and use it to make an informed choice rather than blindly following.

I also suggest experimenting.  Personally, I enjoy the new druid cat form-even though it’s considered a low end damage choice.  Since my feral druid doesn’t raid outside of LFR, I have the freedom to play with the stats and found a higher amount of crit and haste to give me a good dps boost to compete with better geared players as well as allow me to freely use range abilities and heals without switching forms.  Something that works well for Heroics, PvP, and soloing.  But what works for me, can’t work for everyone.  This is why I always suggest playing to your style instead of following to the letter!

Is PvP Gear better then PvE Gear?

Alright gear Nazis, just shut it now.  There is NOTHING wrong with the Warlords PvP gear being used in PvE!  Since they did away with the Resilience stat the PvP gear HAS been viable to use.  Within reason.  So dear god, don’t start that...

To the point:  the main difference in PvP gear and PvE is you’ll see a focus on different stats and usually a higher amount of stam and armor.  Trinkets are the only thing that isn’t viable 90% of the time.

This being said, I suggest going for higher ilvl (PvE ilvl, not what the gear gets pushed to in PvP mind you) and your prefer stats.

Alright nay sayers, think of this.  Should I stick with a 605 heirloom with my WORSE stat when I can get this wonderful 700 ilvl piece with my best stat?  If you say I should keep their heirloom, you fail.  So before you complain about the healer in full PvP gear-think about the fact that they might have replaced some REALLY shitty pieces with that.  This is a logic I apply in just about every LFR I go into because someone starts whining about someone in PvP stuff.

But I’ll give you this:  If you’re in a LFR and a piece with better stats for you that can compare and be better than the PvP piece drops and you don’t use it, then you’ve failed.

If you enjoy PvP and PvE, I suggest trying for two sets that will use the stats you need for each (if their different) so your always doing your best.

I will say this:  Tanks using PvP gear (heavy on it too) are okay in my book.  As mentioned above, PvP gear is usually a higher stam and armor piece.  If you’re one of the classes that doesn’t have an increase health CD then the trinkets are even viable to you.  But I do suggest looking for bonus armor piece in PvE since the PvP stuff is usually a more dps mix.  If stam is your top stat then a consideration for PvP gear might not be a bad idea, especially if you need better pieces.  You having a higher ilvl then required is always a blessing to the group.

Alright that seems like enough for one post.  Got some questions you see a lot or even wanna know?  Just let me know and I’ll include it next time!

  1. As a newer player, I really liked this. I never knew what people meant by looking it up or anything.
